Working together toward brighter days

Adams Morgan and DC as a whole are often directly affected when global affairs escalate. And even when we aren't, there is an outpouring of support for those suffering near and far. February 2022 was tense, and it's unclear what comes next. But at the very least, life in ANC 1C03 keeps moving forward.

I've been doing my best to provide the Ward 1 redistricting task force with mapping resources to help inform our eventual recommendation for a new Ward 1 ANC map

Let's take a moment to recap what happened in February, look ahead to March 2022, and share our resident + business in focus plus this month's video briefing.

WHAT WE DID
  • A renegotiated settlement agreement with The Grand Duchess Tavern and a settlement agreement for Andy's Pizza both passed 7-0

    • These are voluntary agreements between community groups like the ANC and liquor vendors over the terms of their business operations

  • Resolution supporting the Walk Without Worry Act and the Safe Routes to School Expansion Regulation Act passed 7-0

  • A grant to Jubilee Housing for a community resource center and lending library passed 7-0

  • As part of the Ward 1 redistricting task force, I created maps to help inform the community as we decide upon a recommendation for Ward 1's new ANC and SMD boundaries

    • Please share your thoughts with me and/or at one of our meetings!

  • Testified at a Committee on Health performance oversight hearing

    • I called for DMHHS to continue speedily housing unhoused residents and to stop forcibly displacing those residents

  • Signed letter organized by Decrim Poverty DC calling for reformed narcotics policy

  • Represented ANC 1C at the February Adams Morgan Partnership BID board meeting

  • Spoke with NBC4 Washington about public safety in Adams Morgan

  • Addressed park and small business concerns alongside ward 1 MOCR Anthony Moore

  • Participated in a study for Judith Keller of Heidelberg University (Germany) and the University of Illinois on housing affordability in DC

    • Submit your own responses via the survey portal here!

WHAT'S UP NEXT
  • March 2: ANC 1C general meeting (agenda here, link to attend here)

  • March 5: Community cleanup in Kalorama Park from 11AM-1PM

  • March 14: I'll be part of a panel of ANC commissioners discussing local representation with a class at the University of the District of Columbia

  • March + April: DC council is holding budget oversight hearings for the 2023 budget

  • Ongoing: many liquor licenses in ANC 1C are up for renewal in 2022

    • Please reach out if you have any feedback—positive or negative—on establishments
