Reloaded with a Full Slate on Board

August 2022 was a month of respite for ANC 1C, as we did not hold any official meetings. But that doesn't mean the work slowed down.

Between constituent outreach, ongoing community projects, and the early stages of ANC election season, the past month was not short on dull moments. Now that the school year has begun and summer is near an end, it's time to regroup and keep looking forward.

Earlier last month, I spent a pleasant Saturday afternoon with Ward 1 leaders and the Platform of Hope distributing school supplies in Kalorama Park (photo courtesy of Ben Williams, candidate for Ward 1 SBOE)

Let's revisit August 2022, preview what September 2022 has in store, meet our resident + business in focus, and see this month's video briefing.

WHAT WE DID
  • ANC 1C had a recess from official 1C meetings, which includes committees

  • Represented ANC 1C at the August 2022 Adams Morgan Partnership BID board meeting

  • Co-signed letter supporting recently unionized staff of Starbucks on P Street NW

  • Co-signed letter to DDOT with suggestions on anticipated Georgia Ave bus lanes

  • Contributed to local news coverage of the first 18th St pedestrian zone trial of 2022 (7News and WUSA9)

  • Attended the Ward 1 education and youth committee August 2022 meeting to plan ongoing projects

  • Volunteered at a Platform of Hope event in Kalorama Park distributing school supplies

  • Released phase 1 survey results regarding 18th St pedestrian zone

    • I conducted this survey independently, with phase 2 to come later in autumn

  • A couple non-commissioner experiences of mine generated discussion on social media

WHAT'S UP NEXT
  • September 7: ANC 1C general meeting (agenda here, link to attend here)

  • September 17: the annual 50 States Ride will begin in Yards Park

    • Let me know if you plan on participating!

  • September 22: bike with Ward 1 ANC candidates

    • Join many Ward 1 neighbors to see where our road network needs improvements (route with meeting stops to be shared once finalized)

  • Until October 7: Zero Waste DC comment period is open

  • Ongoing: many liquor licenses in ANC 1C are up for renewal in 2022

    • Please reach out if you have any feedback—positive or negative—on establishments

  • Ongoing: DC Water is finishing up the replacement of lead pipes on Kalorama Rd NW

    • Please continue to contact me with concerns, as this project's schedule has changed multiple times
