World Pride is finally here. And while the political climate is hardly ideal, the need for safe fun is as strong as ever. Adams Morgan will surely see many visitors in our parks, streets, and small businesses. Let's work together to ensure festivities are enjoyable for all.

On the less pleasant side of DC affairs, the mayor has proposed a budget for fiscal year 2026. This comes much later than usual, in large part because congressional Republicans insist on holding DC hostage for their own self-aggrandizing purposes. The budget situation is not particularly optimistic, which means public input is vital for making sure key public services are protected. Consider testifying at an upcoming hearing, or let me know what budget items are important to you.

Let's look back at May 2025, preview June 2025, meet our organization + business in focus, and see this month's video briefing.

WHAT WE DID

  • Passed (6-0) a resolution requesting Carolyn Llorente Memorial Park be transferred from DDOT to DPR

    • If approved, this would help neighbors more effectively volunteer to beautify this space near 7-Eleven on Columbia Rd

  • Supported (6-0) an HPRB application for proposed changes to 1610 Columbia Rd NW

  • Passed (6-0) a resolution calling for increased weekday availability of the Marie Reed athletic fields for unorganized public use

  • Attended informational overview and update on Taft Bridge railing improvement project

    • Construction on the bridge is expected to begin in July 2025

  • Quoted in Washington Post article on vandalism to a local queer establishment

    • I condemned the crime and applauded the resiliency of the Adams Morgan community

  • Attended FY 2026 budget informational session organized by the office of Mayor Bowser

WHAT'S UP NEXT

  • June 4: ANC 1C general meeting (agenda here, link to attend here)

  • June 6: Adams Morgan resident Monica Jahan Bose will lead an outdoor performance on the plaza at Marie Reed, in conjunction with World Pride

  • June 15: resident-led celebration at Unity Park (near the Line Hotel) to celebrate the completion of the Columbia Road bus priority project

  • Various dates: DC Council will hold their annual budget oversight hearings

    • Send me priorities for what budget items need to be protected and what cost saving measures might make sense to support

  • Rolling deadline: the DC Coalition Against Domestic Violence is accepting applications for a board member position

    • If you or someone you know is a survivor of domestic violence, consider applying to join DCCADV's board
