May 2023 went by very quickly. But it wasn't short on activity in ANC 1C03. Our monthly ANC meeting was thorough and extensive—it lasted until almost midnight! There were also several events in the neighborhood throughout the month.
Whether discussing our parks, listening to music at Porchfest, saying hello to fellow cyclists on Bike to Work Day, or browsing second-hand sales on Adams Morgan sidewalks, May 2023 was full of options. There's plenty more scheduled for the summer months; I'm looking forward to seeing more of everyone!
Now let's review what happened in May 2023, look ahead to June 2023, meet our organization + business in focus, and see this month's video briefing.
WHAT WE DID
Support for class C restaurant liquor license for Carioca Bar passed (8-0-0)
Resolution regarding the Adams Morgan Moratorium Zone passed (8-0-0)
After months of collaboration with neighbors, ANC 1C suggested that ABCA renew the moratorium zone but with modifications allowing more tavern licenses
I spoke with DCist about this resolution for an article on the matter
Support for sidewalk patio permit for Le Mont Royal passed (8-0-0)
Support for zoning special exemption for the development project at 1722/1724 Euclid St. NW passed (7-1-0)
This exemption would allow the redeveloped complex to have fewer private parking spaces than typically required
I voted in favor of this exemption particularly since the goal of the project is to entirely serve housing voucher recipients and low-income renters
Resolution supporting a map amendment to rezone 1617 U Street NW passed (6-2-0)
This amendment, already supported by ANCs 1B and 2B, would raise the permissible height on any new construction at this location
After language was added that strongly emphasizes how this support is conditional on prioritizing affordable housing in the area, I voted in favor
Joined neighbors to meet with DPR representatives and walk through Hargrove Park, Kalorama Park, and Unity Park and assess ongoing needs
Signed letter to DC Council and Mayor Bowser urging they push for federally controlled parks in DC to have ownership and management transferred to DC
Successfully requested Google Maps label Carolyn Llorente Memorial Park on their map
This triangle park is adjacent to Ann Hughes Hargrove Park, which was recently featured in DC Office of Planning's Locate project
WHAT'S UP NEXT
June 6: According to DDOT, the 1800 blocks of Kalorama and Wyoming are expected to be fully converted into one-ways, depending on weather
June 7: ANC 1C general meeting (agenda here, link to attend here)
This will be ANC 1C's first attempt at holding a hybrid meeting
You can attend online or in-person at the Line Hotel's community center
One of the agenda items addresses potential pedestrian zone events on 18th St in 2023
Be sure to review the phase I and phase II results of surveys I conducted on this in 2022—over 80% of respondents supported a pedestrian zone
July 13: ABCA public hearing regarding ANC 1C's resolution on Adams Morgan Moratorium Zone
I plan on testifying and appreciate the several months of feedback residents have shared
