Clean and Green post-Halloween

Autumn in DC is one of my favorite experiences: cool evenings, colorful leaves, and the mosquitos begin to die off. It was fun getting to work with neighbors to weed the Kalorama Park garden, remember those who died by suicide during a moving community walk, and continue speaking with residents and businesses on how to keep our neighborhood thriving.

A busy month leading into an equally busy holiday season. But before then, please come out to the city-wide street cleanup I organized for November 6! The event goes all day, but will go through Adams Morgan starting at 11AM on the Duke Ellington Bridge. More details here

Spent a beautiful Saturday caring for the garden in Kalorama Park

Now let's revisit October, peek at what's in store for November 2021, our resident + business in focus, and this month's video briefing.

WHAT WE DID

  • Resolutions to protest restaurant liquor licenses for Entice (1725 Columbia Rd NW) and Glory (2406 18th St NW) both passed 6-0; this allows ANC 1C to be part of negotiating how these businesses operate

  • Request for zoning exemption to build rear addition to a basement unit passed 6-0

  • Request to oppose zoning exemption amendment allowing two alley parking spots to be compact size failed 3-3; this means the exemption passes and the spots can be smaller than normal

  • $4,000 grant for Platform of Hope to purchase laptops for families with limited computer access passed 6-0

  • Letter requesting the Department of General Services create a dashboard for tracking school facility status passed 6-0

  • Contract for audio & video services for ANC 1C meetings passed 6-0

  • Co-authored a Washington Post op-ed calling for an end to encampment evictions

  • Represented ANC 1C at the October Adams Morgan Partnership BID board meeting

  • Testified at subcommittee on redistricting public roundtable in favor of adjusting Ward 1's boundaries

WHAT'S UP NEXT

  • November 3: ANC 1C general meeting (agenda here, link to attend here)

  • November 6: Crosstown Cleanup! I'll be walking over 10 miles from near American University to River Terrace picking up trash with local organizations; the nearest stop to ANC 1C03 is 11AM at the Duke Ellington Bridge on Calvert St; see this post & flyer for more details

  • October + November: I'm making a special outreach push before holiday season to hear from neighbors: how am I doing? What goals do you have for 2022? Message me or schedule a phone chat!
