Summer has come and gone, although the heat and humidity continue to linger. ANC 1C is back from its August recess and ready to move ahead with several new items on the horizon. Please join me and other commissioners for a neighborhood cleanup at 9am on Saturday, September 9, starting at the Kalorama Park Rec Center.
There is still a wide range of concerns on everyone's mind that I am always working to address. September 2023 shows us just how delicate this balance can be: Adams Morgan Day is coming up, the new school year has begun, and some long neglected properties might be seeing rejuvenation in the near future. But violent crime keeps trending in the wrong direction, housing and living expenses are increasingly expensive, and COVID-19 cases are starting to creep back.
It's not always easy balancing the diverse emotions that come out of these issues, and I thank everyone who shares how they feel with me. Whether small or grandiose, our progress comes from our collaboration.
Now let's revisit what happened in August 2023, look toward September 2023, meet our organization + business in focus, and see this month's video briefing.
WHAT WE DID
ANC 1C had a recess from official 1C meetings, which includes committees
Spoke with the Washington Post regarding a fatal shooting on Ontario Road
Signed letter urging improvements at DC's 911 emergency call office
ABCA decided to raise the number of tavern licenses permitted in Adams Morgan from 10 to 15
While an encouraging change, this will not alter anything in practice unless an establishment cancels their liquor license or has it terminated
I will continue to work with colleagues and constituents to address the challenges posed by vacant commercial units
